Dr. Penelope Drake is hoping to cure a virus called Sex or Suffer, which infects women only, making it necessary for them to have sex, with no pleasure involved. The consequences are intense suffering and pain that grow until a male ejaculates inside their body. Penelope uses the last of the cure available to her on a patient against the orders of her superiors. She then, mysteriously, contracts the virus herself. Feeling she cannot tell anyone she has the virus, she must get off of Bravura and on to Parsec colony where they have more of the cure available. So Penelope gets on The Dalton, the first transport ship she can to take her to Parsec.

The Dalton is manned by Gray Wyckoff, who at first doesn’t want to take any passengers off world. The crew has just come back from a long journey and the last thing they need is to go off on another one without some down time in between. However, Penelope convinces them to take her to Parsec Colony, but once on board The Dalton the virus goes full force in affecting Penelope.

But lucky for Penelope, Gray and his first officer Nathan are more than ready to help her out. Now all Penelope has to do is get to Parsec Colony and get the cure. Only thing is, more than one person seems to want Penelope to not make to Parsec or get the cure.

Was Penelope infected on purpose? And what happens when medicine sex becomes something deeper, something like love? Will she still feel that way about the Captain of The Dalton when she doesn’t have to have sex or suffer?

Lara Santigo has a sci-fi adventure full of steamy sex, and mystery in Sex or Suffer. We meet Penelope who is a strong independent woman and in charge of herself which does not endear her to the men around her. However, she remains a good person wanting to help others throughout. Gray is a wily captain and he knows he has rules to follow and he tries to follow them, but he can’t help himself from being a rule breaker. He is drawn to Penelope, not just because she is a hot woman who wants sex, but he feels a connection to her that grows deeper for him the more he is around her. I was riveted while reading Sex or Suffer as there is depth of character in Penelope and Gray that lasts until the end. You will not be sorry when you pick up Sex or Suffer – this is a wonderfully romantic story you will want more of!

Getting Started in a New Year...Goals, Motivation and My Conflict

I probably should have posted this blog earlier in the week...like Monday...but I wanted to talk movies on Monday and it's my blog. :)
Recap form Movie Monday? Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber in Defiance. Recommended and drool worthy...yum. :)

Okay - Back to business.
I'm a firm believer in goals. This is not a secret with anyone who knows me well.
I have my 2009 goals framed and in front of me on my desk. As I complete each one, I mentally check them off with great satisfaction and accomplishment.
A standard goal each year for me is to improve or beat my last year's total word count. As a goal I think it's worthy, but difficult to achieve.

I'm one of those writers who keeps daily track of my word count. I put it in a spreadsheet. It makes me happy. :)

Why then does it seem to be so difficult to get started in the new year?
Does anyone else have this issue?
I have goals. I should be motivated. My conflict?...January is almost always my worst month for total word counts.
So far in 2009 I've written just over 14,000 words which actually is better than last year.
In 2008 by the end of January I'd completed 12,565 words. In 2007, a pitiful 6,298.

Now by the end of 2007 I'd written almost 300,000 words.
In 2008...245,672
My goal for 2009 is to beat 2008. Which was also one of my goals for 2008. Sigh.

I had 8 releases in 2008.
It wasn't a goal for last year, but it makes me feel good saying it. :)

January - The Mercenary's Wife
March - Kissed By Fate in the duet with Emma Wildes called The Sins of Their Fathers
March - Rapture Volume One: an anthology with my entry of The Prosecutor's Paramour
June - Menagerie
October - Mr. Right
November - The Perfect Tool
December - Sex Or Suffer
December - The Mistletoe Mistake

So can I do 9 in 2009? I'm not sure.
That would be really pushing it, and much of it is out of my control, but you never know. Could I write 9 books in a year? Sigh. My fingers ache at the thought. ;)
I'll give it a whirl though.

Movie Monday - Defiance

Recently, I went to see the movie Defiance with my family.
We all enjoyed it very much.
I mean it had Danial Craig, Liev Schreiber, Russian accents, a World War II setting, gunfire, explosions, and a great story that happened to be true.
What's not to love?
Personally, I'd give it 4.5 Stars out of 5. :)

As many do, I have a personal rating/review system for the movies that I see.
I'll do a Five star system here for clarity.

5 Stars - and the top rating criteria for a movie in my personal rating system: Would I be willing pay to see it at the theater again?

4 Stars - and next on my scale: Would I make plans to buy the DVD once available in a few months?

3 Stars - third down: Not bad, but I'll wait until it comes to Cable On Demand if I decide to watch it again.

2 Stars - second to the bottom: Not completely sorry I saw it, but I don't plan to watch it again if I can help it.

1 Star - Dead last in my rating system: How can I get my money back for enduring this trash the first time? :)

With reference to Defiance, I could be talked into seeing it again, but likely I won't have time, and I'll definitely buy it when the DVD comes out.

Did you see this movie yet?
Did you like it?
What did it rate on your rating scale?

Sex Or Suffer by Lara Santiago
The Blurb:
[Siren Menage Amour 23: Erotic Sci-Fi, Multiple Sex Partner Romance]

Devastated to discover she harbors the SOS virus, medical researcher, Dr. Penelope Drake hires Captain Gray Wyckoff to take her across the galaxy to the cure on Parsec Five. As Penelope fights for a permanent remedy to cure this monstrous disease, the deplorable question in her mind repeats: How did she contract the virus in the first place?

Captain Gray Wyckoff burns every bridge he's ever built to get Penelope there, only to find she can't deliver the payment she's promised. Serving as her temporary sexual cure along the way only adds to his feelings of betrayal. He thought he loved her. Now he's not sure he can forgive her. Love her? Leave her? The choice between sex or suffering has never been so hard to make.

Especially when he has to watch her have sex with another man.

"Being a romantic at heart, my favorite stories are those where love is discovered between a hero and heroine and the ultimate struggles they face to be together. Why then would a woman decide to sleep with two different men? That provocative question began this book and my answer came in the form of a virus called Sex or Suffer. Enjoy." ~ Lara

A new Review for The Mistletoe Mistake from Romance Junkies

Blue Ribbon Rating: 4.5 blue ribbons

Title: Blind Date After Dark 3: The Mistletoe Mistake
by Lara Santiago

Erica Porter’s Christmas season is off to a brilliant start. She’s been offered her dream job at Thorne Industries and she’s not about to do anything to screw it up. All her good intentions go right out the window the minute she spots a drool worthy posterior in the copier room – of course the rest of Mr. Tall, Dark and Delectable is just as impressive.

Stunned by such blatant masculine appeal Erica can’t be faulted for overindulging in such eye candy, but she hadn’t expected to be busted doing so either. The object of her fascination calls her on her perusal and the inner vixen in her cannot be denied because she spouts off with a stunning question of her own meant to put him in his place but instead he finds great humor in her boldness.

Erica’s prominently displayed nametag and dedication to getting reports copied before attending the company Christmas party easily label her a newbie. Since he’s not wearing a nametag he’s obviously been here longer and doesn’t seem inclined to share his name either but there’s no doubt he’s enjoying the verbal sparring. When he’s finishes with the copier, he steps back and allows Erica to use it but subjects her to the same perusal she did him – much to her irritation.

When she finishes and gets ready to leave though, she finds herself pulled underneath a sprig of mistletoe and subjected to a kiss that scorches its way clear to her toes. Of course that leads to other inappropriate office behavior but Erica’s finding it impossible to regret a single moment of the encounter with a man whose name she doesn’t even know. Well, she doesn’t regret it at all until she arrives at the Christmas party and is introduced to her new boss – and his wife. Imagine her horror when the man she was just indulging in carnal fantasies with turns out to be her new married boss – or is there more to the situation than she’s aware?

MISTLETOE MISTAKE is the third story in Lara Santiago’s BLIND DATE AFTER DARK series. I’ve found all these short stories to be humorously captivating but MISTLETOE MISTAKE has an added devilish element which keeps the plotline jumping. Erica’s bold attitude and ability to challenge ‘her man’ display exactly the sort of traits he needs in his life. Unfortunately his true identity proves to be a bit problematic but true desire can’t be stopped and love won’t be denied. Once again Ms. Santiago delivers exactly the sort of storyline her readers have come to treasure.
