Interview of Emma Wildes by Mandy Roth

Marketing with Mandy Author Spotlight Emma Wildes

Q: Tell us a little about your experience with Siren Publishing.

A: I love Siren and Diana Debalko has a very aggressive approach to marketing the books the company publishes. Ads in Romantic Times magazine for instance. I had a full page in August. Wow, what a perk. That, besides great covers and some of the best editing out there…well, I’m home

Q: What tips/tricks do you use for marketing or promoting your own titles?

A: This sounds too simple, but I write a lot. Under other names I am published also in mystery, horror, suspense, historical romance, and of course, erotic romance as Emma. I do believe it is important to have a lot of titles out there. I am an avid reader and what I want when I find an author I like—or love—is another book. I also keep my website up to date and try to participate in author days, etc. Sometimes it is hard to find the time, but I make sure I write 365 days a year. It’s no chore, because I love it!

Q: What is one thing you’d want to tell a newer author, just coming into the game?

A: Persevere. I wish this advice was unique, but the truth is, you have to hang in there and believe it will come. Look at it the way I did: I would write anyway, paid or not. So, I write and submit and hope for the best. At the least, you’ll please yourself (not a bad thing). At the most, you’ll find great success. In between isn’t bad either.

Q: What’s your favorite genre to write in and why?

A: I write historical erotic romance and most of it is Regency. I love how polite gentlemen and their ladies were in that time…but they weren’t all that polite in the bedroom (well, who can be?)! The contrast interests me and I am a history buff anyway. Rakish heroes and independent heroines…oh yes. One of my editors complained I rarely let the hero rescue the heroine. Well, of course not. His intentions are good, mind you, but she is capable of taking care of herself most of the time .

Q: Can you tell us a little about your current WIP’s?

A: I am working on a sequel to Savage Shores as part of a new series, The Sins of Their Fathers, based on prior books. In this collection children of prior characters showcase their own stories. It is so fun to be able to revisit some of my favorites and let them deal with being parents and their headstrong offspring. The work will be titled Can’t Say No (he really can’t refuse the heroine) and will be coupled with the wonderful Lara Santiago in a dual collection. She does daring, unforgettable futuristic, so this should be fun.

Q: How did you get into writing?

A: I love to read. I’m addicted. I write a lot and probably still read three or four books a week. It was an easy avenue to take. I think I wanted to be a writer from the time I was nine or so.

Q: What authors inspired you growing up?

A: Oh, so glad you asked this because I love to answer this question. Zane Grey, Mary Stewart, Barbara Michaels, John Dickson Carr, and more recently Dick Francis, Elizabeth George and John Sanford. But I read everything and everyone, except science fiction is not my thing. For romance writers I enjoy Julia Quinn, Kimberly Cates, Mary Balough, and Iris Johanson. In erotic, well, hmm…Mandy Roth, Michelle Pillow, Kimberly Zant, and Lara Santiago come to mind. It sometimes is a small world.

Colin Riley, a sexy FBI agent, loves two women. The sultry Rachel saves him from a Columbian drug lord but the tender Laurie, a librarian, makes him feel alive.

Laurie Peterson is experiencing too many blackouts. One minute she being a spy with a sexy agent then the next she is back at work in her home life of being a librarian.

Laurie has dreams that make no sense. In reality she cannot remember her counterpart, Rachel Miles, a certified Protocol spy with the agency for over a year. In Columbia, on a mission, Rachel has the opportunity of meeting the handsome Colin and saving his life. After they return home, he searches for the lovely lady and finds her working in a library. Laurie has no recollection of any mission or anything about Colin but he heats her desire in the worse way. Something is causing Laurie’s multiple personalities and Colin intends on finding out why the series of change.

The Forgetful Spy is one cool suspenseful read. Watching the interaction between Laurie then Rachel is remarkable as it all unravels. The plot with that certain twist at the end is just the right touch in making this story very creative. I enjoyed the scenes with Colin when he was with Rachel then Laurie. His reactions are so genuine, and I could almost see his expressions. Lara Santiago goes all out to craft a mind-blowing read with many secondary characters that keep the reader thoroughly entertained.

Christmas Meme

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Hot Chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just put them under the tree? Depends on who you talk to in our house. I say wrap them. If he has time to travel around the world in a single night, then there is time for wrapping. :)

3. Colored or white lights on tree/house? I like all the pretty colors.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Not usually. But it isn't out of the realm of possiblity.

5. When do you put your decorations up? This year, I don't have to, because we're traveling. Although we might haul out the little baby tree.

6. What is your holiday dish (excluding dessert)? A tie between Mashed potatoes and Green Bean Casserole.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child: When my parents got me a stereo record player. I totally wasn't expecting it. Remember those 45's and Albums? :)

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I don't remember when I learned. And apparently it wasn't a huge blow to me, but I remember when my son found out in first grade from some other little tattle tale. :):) No, I'm not bitter. :)

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open half on Christmas eve and half on Christmas day to honor the traditions of both our families. :) This year with the road trip...it will be Christmas every time we go someplace new.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? With all the ornaments the kids made during their elementary school years. Colored lights and a raggedy tinsle rope that I don't have the heart to throw away.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Love it, don't mind visiting it, but don't want to live in it. :)

12. Can you ice skate? No. I have weak ankles. The first time I went at age 16, I got blisters on my fingers trying to get my skate laces tight enough. :)

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Yes, but it was as an adult. My mom made me and my brother a photo album of old pictures from old slides. My brother opened his first and my mom said I gave him a look of such tragic longing. LOL
Luckily she made one for both of us.

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you? Time with family.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Pumpkin pie with whipped cream. And I hear it's good for breakfast too. :)

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Getting the tree out and putting it up with the kids. I used to make them wear moose antlers that jingled until they got taller than me.

17. What tops your tree? An angel.

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Without a doubt...Giving.

19. What is your favourite Christmas song? Walking in a Winter Wonderland.

20. Candy canes: A nice image, but unless they are another flavor besides peppermint, I'm not interested. :)

21. Favourite Christmas movie? The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

22. What do you leave for Santa? We never left him anything. He does it out of the goodness of his heart, right? :)

I'm not tagging any one with this Meme. My gift to all. :)
